Rima served as President 2013 and President Elect 2012 and 2014, and is a partner in SelectFirst Insurances Services, an agency providing commercial insurance to businesses.
Rima is an internationally recognized speaker, Political and Community Leader/Activist with more than 20 years of experience in public speaking, conducting seminars, and media appearances promoting openness, equal opportunity, tolerance, fairness, and justice for persons of all genders, ethnicity, religious backgrounds, and political persuasions.
Rima has been a guest speaker locally, nationally, and internationally including hosted by the U.S. Department of State in places such as Jerusalem, Qatar, Bahrain, and Kuwait. In addition, she trained the women in Saudi Arabia in August 2015 on how to run for office in anticipation the historical election held in December 2015 where women participated for the first time in the history of the Kingdom.
She has founded and led local, regional, national, and international organizations such as the Coalition of Women from Asia and the Middle (Educating on/Preventing Domestic Violence), the Arab American Democratic Caucus at the CA Democratic Party; One Voice in Unity PAC; and the Latino Arab American Advisory Committee. She is the immediate past president of the Newport Beach Women Democratic Club, and the First Arab American Woman to hold the offices of Vice Chair of the Democratic Party of Orange County for 10 years, President of the National Women Political Caucus of Orange County, and the first Arab American Woman to run in California for a Statewide office in 1998.
Rima is the recipient of numerous awards including Community Activism Appreciation Award, Women For: OC Appreciation Award. Appreciation Award of her Service and Leadership in the field of Refugee Support by Sunrise USA; a Life Time Achievement Award by the Arab American Civic Council; Congressional, State Senate and Orange County Supervisorial proclamations in recognition of her leadership in the community; the Partner of the Year by the Irvine Chamber of Commerce in 2017.
Women Making a Difference in Orange County 2012, Rima was honored by the California State Senate in for her many years of dedicated service and leadership. She also received a US Congressional Recognition Award; the Harry S Truman Lifetime Achievement Award by Democratic Party of Orange County in 2006. She received the Leadership Award by the Rebuilding Alliance, and an Appreciation Award from Claremont Graduate University, Claremont, CA.
She is Co-Chair of the International Development Committee, Greater Irvine Chamber of Commerce.
Rima is Founder and President of Global Hope 365, a local nonprofit in Tustin dedicated to ending harmful practices towards women and girls such as Child Marriage, Human Trafficking, and Chhaupadi.
She serves on the Board of Directors of the United Nations Association of Orange County and the International Visitors Council of Los Angeles (IVCLA), a nonprofit committed to creating a world of peace and prosperity through Citizen Diplomacy and is currently a member of the Advisory Board of Friends of UNRWA, USA, ANERA and the Arab American National Museum. She is also the co-Chair of the International Development Committee and the task force leader of the World Trade Week Breakfast and Forum of the Greater Irvine Chamber of Commerce.
Regina has been a member of IAIP since 2002. She was a long time member of the Insurance Professionals of North San Diego County until they turned in their charter. She served multiple times as President and Co-President as well as serving in other officer positions and serving as a committee chair for various association committees.
Regina helps plan the annual Fashion Show and other events throughout the year. She is our website and social media Chair and keeps the web site and other social media pages updated with meeting information and current events. She also serves as the Awards Chair.
Regina has served as the Council Director Assistant as well as Regional Vice President Assistant. She served on the California Council level as Public Relations Liaison in 2008, 2009, 2018 and will continue this role in 2019. She has won numerous awards at the Local, Council and Regional levels. She was awarded the San Diego Insurance Woman of the Year in 2009 presented at the San Diego IDay.
Regina retired from her insurance career in 2014 after 35 years in the industry. When she does have spare time she volunteers at the senior center and other local community events. She loves road trips, gardening, photography and making her own greeting cards.
She is always event planning and is a crafter. She and her husband are house sitters and spend a few months a year traveling.
Carolyn’s career with the Insurance Professionals of Orange County and IAIP (NAIW) began in 1977. She has been an active member for the past 36 years. She has held the offices of Director, Vice-President, President-Elect, President and currently the Treasurer. As president (1990-1991) her theme was Dedication to Excellence.
The past years she has chaired numerous committees. At the present time, as Treasurer, she manages all RSVP’s for IPOC member dinner meetings and events. She also works closely with other committee chairs.
In 1990-1991 Carolyn was presented with the Insurance Woman of The Year Award. She has attended over twenty Regional Conferences, State Council Meetings and two International Conventions.
Carolyn retired in 2008 after working 42.5 years.
In her years of employment she received a number of awards for her outstanding work and maintaine a perfect attendance record.
Gina Thomas Patterson, CISR-ELITE, CPIW, DAE, CLP
Gina Thomas Patterson, CISR Elite, CPIW, DAE, CLP is the Assistant Marine Manager, Special Underwriting & Sales with Roanoke Trade in their Long Beach, CA office. She is an approved Lloyd’s Coverholder and presently holds underwriting authority for the Munich Re Syndicate at Lloyd’s of London. Roanoke Trade is a subsidiary of Munich Re and an affiliate of the Munich Re Syndicate at Lloyd’s of London. She oversees the day to day operations in Roanoke’s specialty Transportation Advantage Program division for domestic freight forwarders and property brokers.
Gina is Past President of the South Bay Association of Insurance Professionals (a DBA of the South Bay Chapter of NAIW), a local affiliate of the International Association of Insurance Professionals. She also South Bay’s Education Director with the State of California Department of Insurance, and has served in various capacities including president-elect, vice president, webmistress, education, communications, and awards chair for the association.
In 2009, she was instrumental in developing SBAIP’s Mentors & Protégés program which was adapted for use for the CA Council of IAIP, Region VIII of IAIP as well as at the international level, and was instrumental in developing South Bay’s first-ever website and implementing the association’s electronic storage and communications.
She has served on the public relations team with the California Council of IAIP since 2008 in various capacities, served as instructor at IAIP’s 2011 international annual convention held in Las Vegas, and served on the International Education Task Force in 2012-2016. She was Region VIII Conference Program Chair in 2015 as well as Education Chair in 2016, 2017 and 2019.
Gina has served on the Board of Directors for Women in International Trade – Los Angeles (WIT-LA) since 2012 first as Membership Chair and is the current Vice President and By-Laws Chair and Parliamentarian.
Patterson joined Roanoke Trade in 2002 and is a licensed insurance broker with the State of California. She has earned the professional industry designations of Certified Insurance Service Representative (CISR) Elite with The National Alliance for Insurance Education and Research; the Certified Professional Insurance Woman (CPIW) as well as the Diversified Advanced Education, the Certified Leadership Professional (CLP) designation and is a Certified Instructor with International Association of Insurance Professionals.
Prior to joining Roanoke Trade, Patterson founded and developed a successful word processing firm, Unlimited Concepts for 18 years. An award-winning ceramist and former member of the Lakewood Artist Guild, she served on LAG’s board of directors for 15 years as newsletter editor, Student Art Show Chairman, Vice President-Crafts Division, and served as President from 2003 through 2007. As Student Art Show Chairman for LAG, she worked closely with Los Angeles County Board of Supervisor Don Knabe’s Art and Education grant program in securing grant funding for local middle and high school art students seeking to further their art studies at the college level.
An avid photographer, her current work can be viewed on her social media pages. A blues guitarist and songwriter, Gina has composed over 120 finished pieces of music tucked in her “black book” with her beloved 12-stringed Guild, aptly named Mona.
Freeda B. Koopmans, AU, AAI
2019-2020 Immediate Past President
Freeda joined the Insurance Professionals of Orange County in February 1986 and has been an active member since, having been Committee Chairs, Secretary, Treasurer and President in 1992 as well as intermittent president through June 2019.
She is the current Immediate Past-President after serving two terms from June 2017 through 2019. During her membership, Freeda is proud to have been honored as Insurance Professional of the Year 1992/93 by the Independent Agents & Brokers of Orange County, as well as by the Insurance Women of Orange County in 1993; in addition Freeda was awarded Mentor and Member of the Year from the California Council of IAIP in 2014, Region VIII Member of the Year 2014-2015, Hall of fame Award in 2016 at the Region VIII conference, Gayle Reskin Angel Award from the California State Council in 2017, Insurance Professional of the Year from Region VII in 2018 and Member of the Year in 2019 from the Insurance Professionals of Orange County.
Freeda’s hobby is reading, traveling to see her family and enjoying life. She continues to be involved with IPOC on their Board of Directors and as Scholarship Chair. As well as helping with charities such as fund raising for Mary’s Kitchen, Women Helping Women, De je New.
